5 Arrested On Drug Crimes After Home Search

Across the United States, police departments are making efforts to reduce drug activity and the use of illegal drugs. Those who are arrested for drug crimes can face very steep fines, many years of incarceration and irreversible damage to personal records and reputations. Drug-related charges have unfortunately become very common in California and are some of the most serious charges that any individual can face.

Recently, five people were arrested in Oceano on drug-related charges. According to reports, police executed a search warrant at a residence during the morning hours. Police said drugs were found during a search of the house, but did not specify what type of drugs.

Reports said one individual who was arrested had previously been found to be in possession of heroin and methamphetamine. The arrested and charged individuals ranged in ages from 20 to 40 years old. The arrests were part of an ongoing narcotics investigation conducted by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

Homes are places of privacy and security. In order for police in California to search a place of private residence, consent or search warrants must be obtained. If police do not obtain either a search warrant or consent from the homeowner, any charges could be dismissed. To achieve the best outcome in a situation such as this, those who have been arrested on suspicious of drug crimes have the right to seek legal counsel. An experienced and skilled criminal defense lawyer can offer protection of individual rights and provide much-needed guidance to those who have been charged.
